The Big 28
I officially turned 28 years old today! I don't feel old, yet my 13 year old step-sister enjoys reminding me that I am. I was 13 years old in 1994. My sister thinks I am ancient, because it was before Internet and cell phones were the big craze! Most of my favorite rock artists from my teen years are foreign to her. I own pictures of myself in neon colored clothing with big bangs.I enjoy listening to artists such as Richard Marx, because it brings back fond memories of my younger years. Am I old yet? Well I'll let you decide that one.
I experienced a pleasant surprise today. I stop at a local cafe located on my college campus every Friday. The cafe offers students a microwave to heat up lunches from home. I usually heat up some soup and buy a coffee. The cafe owner enjoys having me as a customer because I always clean up my messes. Today after I purchased my coffee the owner told me to have a nice day. I stated that I will because I have fun plans for my birthday. The cafe owner stated that if it was my birthday, then the coffee was on the house. This just goes to show that you reap what you sow. A simple act of kindness will generate receiving unexpected acts of generosity.
I also received an early birthday celebration from my mother and step-father. I enjoyed dining at a trendy restaurant and donut shop in downtown Portland. My mother brought me gifts. The gifts were unexpected, considering she bought me a plane ticket to visit my childhood home and close friends.
My husband took me shopping at Ross and Burlington Coat Factory. I was able to purchase: 2 blouses, a skirt, earrings, and some bake ware. My husband also treated me to a fancy restaurant. The restaurant's atmosphere created a romantic evening. We were seated beside a fire with piano music in the background. I was surrounded by beautiful contemporary art pieces, and enjoyed a delicious meal.
I also received a $50.00 Amazon gift card from a generous relative. I ordered some books I've been wanting to read, along with soap making supplies. Speaking of soap making, anyone who wants handmade soap let me know. I'm offering to make soap for you.
That was my birthday in a nutshell. I am looking forward to seeing what pleasant surprises this new year brings for me!
